At the Old School Nursery, we strongly believe in seeing children as individuals. Our ethos is to work closely with and build meaningful relationships with families. By respecting that all children are different and they come to our nursery with unique experiences of family, friends and their world, we are able to build upon this to support each child to make friends and build relationships at nursery.
Parents are key in how we care for and work with your child. From the settling in process as a baby and at each stage of transition through toddlers to pre-school, children who see warm and authentic interactions between a parent and the adult caring for them at nursery, soon learn that that adult can be trusted and can be relied upon for a cuddle, comfort or a play.
It might be reassuring to know that the qualities you value in a person to look after your child, are just the kind of qualities that we value too! Warmth, sensitivity, confidence and understanding are characteristics we look for and value in our team at The Old School Nursery. We believe that when you have this alongside qualifications and experience, children can truly thrive in a childcare setting.
Ensuring good staff stay with us is a priority, and we are very successful at it! Building a relationship with your child’s key person will mean a lot to you whether you want to discuss behaviour, potty training or just find out how they’re getting on. We believe that relationship is just as important as the one between your child and their key person. This is why we place great emphasis on staff continuity and to develop and update staff needs to continuously enable us to develop as a nursery providing high quality care.
At The Old School Nursery you and your child will receive support from an experienced member of staff responsible for your child’s individual needs. This ‘key person’ will take the time to find out from you about your child’s interests, likes, dislikes and special requirements. Although the key person will be your main point of contact, all staff will be happy to feedback on your child’s developmental progress on a daily basis or discuss any concerns with you.
Your child’s key person will also keep records of your child’s progress and achievements using a safe and secure on-line learning journal called Tapestry which is available for you to see and most importantly, contribute your own views.
A folder containing our registration certificate, policies and other documentation is available on request.
Safeguarding young children from radicalisation and Extremism
The manager and staff of The Old School Nursery aim to actively promote fundamental British values, equality and diversity and set standards for learning and developing children’s personal, social and emotional development and their understanding of the World. We will remain alert to changes in a child’s behaviour and keep the important, effective engagement with parents/carers. Should the need arise we would make a referral to the Local Safeguarding Children’s Board (LSCB). By being good role models, we encourage the children in our care to respect each other and adults in the setting.
